AFMRD Texting Privacy Policy

At AFMRD, we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Texting Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when receiving text messages from us. By becoming a member or renewing your membership with AFMRD, you opt-in to receive text messages from AFMRD and agree to the practices described in this policy. 

1. Information We Collect 

When you opt-in to receive text messages from AFMRD, we collect the following information: 

  • Full name 

  • Your cell phone number 

  • Any information you voluntarily provide via text (e.g., responses to surveys or questions we may ask through text). 

We do not collect sensitive information such as financial details, Social Security numbers, or passwords through text messages. 

2. How We Use Your Information 

We use your phone number to communicate with you about: 

  • Updates, events, and programs related to your membership. 

  • Newsletters, reminders, and calls to action. 

  • Surveys and membership engagement efforts. 

Your information will only be used for the purposes outlined in this policy and will not be shared with third parties unless required by law or with your explicit consent. 

3. Message Frequency 

Depending on your membership and engagement with AFMRD, you may receive a varying number of text messages. Generally, messages will be sent at a reasonable frequency, not to exceed 3-4 texts per month. You may receive additional messages during urgent events or special circumstances. 

4. Opt-In and Opt-Out 

  • Opt-In: By providing your phone number and agreeing to receive messages, you are opting in to receiving texts from AFMRD. You can also opt-in by emailing us at afmrd@aafp.org or calling us at 800-274-2237. 

  • Opt-Out: You can stop receiving text messages from us at any time by replying with the word “STOP” to any text message you receive. You will then be unsubscribed from future text communications. For help or assistance, you can reply with the word “HELP.” 

5. Data Retention 

We retain your phone number and any associated data for as long as necessary to provide you with the services you have requested. You may request to have your texting data removed by contacting us or by opting out of text messages. After unsubscribing, your information will be deleted unless required to retain it for legal or accounting purposes. 

6. Security of Your Information 

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from unauthorized access or misuse. However, please be aware that no data transmission method over the internet or through wireless networks is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information. 

7. Third-Party Service Providers 

We will not share or sell your text messaging opt-in data, consent, or related personal information with any third parties, unless required by law. 

8. Your Rights 

You have the right to: 

  • Access your personal data, including your phone number and the types of messages you receive. 

  • Correct any inaccuracies in the information we have about you. 

  • Request deletion of your personal data, subject to any legal obligations we may have.
